Caring for Caregivers Back to list

We all need a break from our daily routines, a chance to step out, take a breath, and enjoy the beauty around us. At Filos, we understand that caregivers, in particular, deserve moments of respite and self-care. That's why we organised an outing to Gardens by the Bay's Flower Dome on 14th July, where we brought together our Eldersitter clients and caregivers for a day filled with warmth, connection, and unforgettable experiences.

The outing kicked off with lively icebreakers during the journey to the Flower Dome, allowing our clients to connect and warm up to one another on the bus. Everyone had a wonderful time, revelling in the beauty of the Rose Romance Exhibition, and capturing cherished moments with old and new friends, as well as their loved ones.

Among the attendees were the lovely Mr and Mrs Chew, who have been navigating the challenges of caregiving ever since Mr. Chew was diagnosed with dementia. Mrs Chew has been his primary caregiver, especially as he developed additional health issues over the years, which led to a decline in his ability to care for himself. For Mrs Chew, this outing meant more than just a change of scenery. It represented a lifeline beyond her caregiving responsibilities. In her pursuit of self-care, she values the chance to meet new people and make friends, finding solace and strength in these connections. Mrs Chew understands that not every caregiver places the same emphasis on self-care, but she believes it should be a top priority. Her poignant testimonial serves as a reminder to us all: respite and self-care are not luxuries but necessities on the journey of caregiving.

As we reflect on this beautiful day at the Flower Dome, we are reminded of the profound impact that moments of respite and joy can have on our clients and caregivers alike. We remain committed to fostering not only the physical but also the emotional well-being of our clients and caregivers, because, as Mrs. Chew so eloquently puts it, "Caring for ourselves enables us to care for our loved ones even better."
