As we observe World Mental Health Day (WMHD) on 10 October, it's a timely reminder of the importance of mental health support and its positive impact on individuals facing tough challenges. At Filos, we strive to make a difference, and we are honoured to share Katherine’s journey of resilience.
Katherine, a woman in her mid-40s, faced immense challenges that left her struggling with depression. Her battles with disability, work, and finances weighed heavily on her, pushing her into a dark place. However, with the support of Filos’ Community Mental Health Services, Katherine discovered a path to healing and hope.
For over a year now, Katherine has been working closely with Filos’ Community Intervention Team (COMIT), where dedicated social workers provided holistic care through case management, service linkage for financial assistance, and counselling for her. Through this comprehensive support, she gradually began to regain her footing. The consistent counselling sessions played a crucial role in helping her stabilise emotionally and mentally.
Today, Katherine is not only managing her condition but is thriving. She now holds a part-time job and is pursuing a Diploma in Business Practice (Business Administration), furthering her skills and opening new opportunities. Her relationship with her family has also improved significantly. With renewed stability and purpose, she finds more meaning in life, turning her struggles into strengths.
Katherine recently shared her appreciation with us, highlighting the transformative impact Filos has had on her journey:
"Dear Filos Team, I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding support I have received during a particularly challenging time. The taxi vouchers for hospital visits alleviated a great deal of stress. I also want to extend a special thank you to my social workers, Petrina and Shirleen, whose dedication and compassion have been a source of immense comfort and encouragement. Your support has been invaluable and deeply appreciated."
Katherine’s story is a testament to the power of community and the impact of tailored support. At Filos, we are committed to standing by our clients, just as we did for Katherine, to help them find hope, resilience, and light at the end of the tunnel.
